METHODIKA IV. a unique international festival exploring various methods of theatrical
training with artists, pedagogues, and scholars of performing arts
through intensive workshops. Methodika opens up new directions in the
development of theatre pedagogy and the evolution of methodological
approaches, spreading knowledge to theatre professionals and opening a
debate on teaching methods in drama schools and in theatre itself.
Methodika has invited four internationally acclaimed masters: Cesar Brie (Sucre, Bolivia), Maria S. Horne (New York, USA), Adolf Shapiro (Moscow, Russia) and Rimus Tuminas (Vilnius, Lithuania) who will lead workshops in parallel scheduled sessions, which allows participants to follow also other groups. One day of the festival consists of demonstrations in which each Master will also lecture on the theoretical principles of his/her method. The final day an open debate will sum up the results of the workshops. Theatre scholars, critics, writers, philosophers and other interested parties are invited to take part. A variety of specialists will be invited as guest lecturers, discussions, music and performances will be arranged in the evenings. INTERNATIONAL THEATRE CENTRE BERLIN (GERMANY)
After an exploration phase of two years with the pilot-project “from cliché in art to the art of cliché” with 120 participants (actors, directors, pedagogues) of 25 nationalities, AKT-ZENT was appointed during the XXXI. World Congress in Manila to serve as a Research Centre forTECOM. of the Committee for 2006 - 2008(additional information concerning the following projects are available from the Secretary of the Committee, or contact directly via e-mail) PERMANENT PROJECTS ORGANIZED BY OR WITH PARTICIPATION OF MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE Centre de Formation et de Recherche en Arts Vivants-CFRAV (Burkina Faso): The CFRAV proposes three-week-workshops once every tri-mester during the course of two years addressing the theatre education of young professionals. Until today CFRAV received 150 students. New development and perspectives are: courses in English and courses for the Training of Trainers. In the future, CFRAV will be glad to receive offers from teachers from abroad. « METHODIKA » - International Festival of Theatre Training Methods (European Association for Theatre Culture / Research Centre) This Festival proposes work sessions of five days on questions about Pedagogy and Methodology concerning actors’ training concentrating on various themes: 1999 Personality and Ensemble (Italy) 2001 Energy and Theater (Sweden) 2003 The Face and the Mask of the Actor (Sweden) The next edition is planned for 2007: “Theatre and Centauristics”, time and place to be determined. www.theatreculture.org, akt-zent@theatreculture.org Reports 2001 + 2003 available from Dramatiska Institutet Stockholm: Email Archive Bureau de Liaison International des Ecoles de Théâtre (BLIET, Liège-Belgique) This organ of the Committee, which has existed for nearly 25 years, with support of « Théâtre et Publics » at Liège, keeps the archive of the Secretariat of the committee. (all reports, project informations of the committee, and any other informations on international Theatre Training) « ISTROPOLITANA » Bratislava (Slovakia) : International Festival of Higher Institutions of Theater Education The program of this event contains presentations of the participating schools of Festival, Workshops, Discussions, International Colloquia. Swetlana Waradzinowa : Email Partnership with OISTAT (International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians) NEW PROJECT Encountering Images (Dhaka, Bangladesh) Proposed by Shafi Ahmed. A training programme for young theatre practicioners from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, consisting of two work-sessions, 2-3 weeks each, with final presentations. Led by TECOM president Christine Schmalor, the aim is the development of acting skills. Seminars and colloquia on the given themes accompany the practical workshops. The first session was held from 25 April to 3 May 2007, and the next module is planned for February 2008 . Shafi Ahmed : Email PROJECTS UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE COMMITTEE : Les Récréatrales, Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) Organised by Etienne Minoungou, this 3-month project of Pan-African residence of theatrical playwright and creation consists of a large one-month programme through several workshops (directing, stage design, actor’s training, playwriting). Its aim is to start from oral culture in order to lead to a new theatrical act and lastly to writing plays. It seeks to encourage the emergence of new contemporary authors and the new dramatic creations of African companies. The next edition will take place July/August - October 2006, including the final presentations, in the form of a Festival. Etienne Minoungou : Email Educational Project Portugal – Cap Verde Presented by José-Pedro Caiado, Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, Lisbon The aim of this exchange project is to establish theatre education in Cap Verde, understanding the specific needs, and to develop a curriculum, focussing on both educational and technical theatre. Its organizers ask for advice and exchange of experiences. José Pedro Caiado : Email Festival of Shadow Theater in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus Presented et Emre Erdem (Turkey). This Festival will consist of performances and workshops with Masters of the Art of Shadow Theater, on how to make Shadow Theater. It will be a tri-country-festival, to take place in successive years in Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus. Contact: Alain Chevalier PROJECTS From Cliché in Art to the Art of Cliché research project under the direction of AKT-ZENT/European Association for Theatre Culture (EATC) for the next two years exploring gesture and voice between codified traditions and psychological realism towards new forms of expression in acting. This project has started with a workshop (led by Dr. Jurij Alschitz) and scientific colloquium (led by Professor Sonia Simkova) on the given theme at Istropolitana Project, 2004, Bratislava. The Partners : Les Récréatrales, Burkina Faso, The National School of Drama, India, The University of Veracruz, Mexico. Contact: Etienne Minoungou Ecole Internationale de Théâtre du Bénin This School is the continuation of 20 years of work realized by Atelier Nomade : The training course is 11 months, open to foreigners and concentrates on the traditional rituals of Benin and their links with Theater, Dance, and Music. Contact: Dine Alougbine Imaginary Academy Groznjan (Croatia): July 18 – Aug. 31, 2004 is organized each year by the Academy of Drama Art University of Zagreb/ Center for Dramatic Art as an international summer Academy with Master classes on acting, directing and playwriting. Contact: Zelimir Mesaric Workshop at Liege (Belgium) in January-February 2005 for the « FESTIVAL DES QUATRE CHEMINS/KAT CHEMEN » (Haiti) this workshop will be an exchange of practices between Haitian and Belgian students. The workshop is a continuation of a project initiated in October 2002. Contact: Alain Chevalier Workshop and Colloquium of Methodology (February 2006, Moscow, Russia) : Chepkin School at Maly Theater (Classic methods) and the School of Theater Vakhtangov (Method of Fantstic Realism) propose two workshops, each consisting of 10 students, to work in their respective methods and to present the results to a public of pedagogues, trainers and researchers. This professional audience will continue with a 5 day colloquium on theater training methods.
