  The ITI General Secretariat is the headquarters of the International Theatre Institute.

The ITI General Secretariat is located in premises provided by UNESCO at its international headquarters in Paris. 

The ITI General Secretariat fulfils both an artistic and an administrative role and puts into effect decisions made by the Executive Council.. 

The Secretariat's administrative tasks include : 

  • supporting the ITI structure by organizing Executive Council meetings and General Assemblies 
  • maintaining and developing the ITI network by facilitating contact between members 
  • circulating information, both within and outside ITI, in particular through its publication "NEWS from the Secretariat" which comes out 3 times a year in English and French editions. 
The ITI General Secretariat is involved in the organization and coordination of major ITI international activities in cooperation with its own members - National Centres and Committees - and for certain projects also works with UNESCO and other international partners. 

As a non-governmental organization (NGO) engaged in formal relations of association with UNESCO, the ITI General Secretariat is responsible for ITI's relations with UNESCO including the negotiation of UNESCO financial support for certain ITI international events. 

ITI is not itself a funding body and the ITI General Secretariat is financed by the annual contributions of ITI members.
