21 October 2000 SEOUL (Rep. of Korea) SEOUL (Rep. of Korea) Creation of the Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau of the International Theatre Institute. As a follow-up to the resolution adopted by the 28th ITI World Congress, the founding meeting of the Regional Bureau was chaired by Ms Hyesook Yang, President of the Korean ITI Centre, in the framework of BeSeTo Festival. The main aim of the Bureau is « to promote the development of the performing arts in Asia and the Pacific and to foster the growth of intercultural exchanges in the region and at an international level. » The meeting was followed by an International Symposium on the theme : “ How to promote the development of the performing arts in Asia. » Representatives from 10 countries present gave papers and took part in discussions chaired by Hyesook Yang. Delegates included : Australia, John Clark, Director, NIDA, National Institute of Dramatic Art Bangladesh, Ramendu Majumdar, President of the ITI Centre, Ataur Rahman, Secretary General of the Centre China, Wang Yunming, Secretary General of the Centre de l’IIT, Wan Ling, Secretary Korea, Hyesook Yang, President of the ITI Centre India, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Cooperating Member of ITI, Director, National School of Drama (Reoti Saran Sharma, Secretary General Indian Centre of ITI sent a paper) Japan, Nagayama Takeomi, President of the ITI Centre, Yoko Odagiri, Secretary General. Mongolia, Namsrain Suvd, President of the ITI Centre, Luvsanjumban Ugtaabater, Secretary General of the Centre. Nepal, Abhi Subedi, President of the ITI Centre, Sunil Pokharel, Secretary General Philippines, Cécile Guidote Alvarez, Secretary General of the ITI Centre. Vietnam, Do Doan Chau, Director, Vietnam School of Theatre. The President of ITI worldwide, KIM, Jeong Ok, the Secretary General, André-Louis Périnetti were present as well as Ann Mari Engel, Director of the Swedish ITI Centre and Secretary General of the Nordic Theatre Union. Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau of ITI/UNESCO The following rules of procedure were adopted : Asia Pacific Regional Bureau of ITI 1/ Membership : The members of the Regional Bureau are the National Centres and organizations in the Asia Pacific Region which are full members, associate members or cooperating members of ITI in accordance with the Charter of ITI. Other countries in the Rgion could be contact members. 2/ Meetings : Meetings of the Bureau will be held at least once a year, preferably in a different country on each occasion. 3/ Coordinator of the Bureau One National Centre will be elected the coordinating country for the Bureau. From now until the next ITI Congress, the Korean Centre of ITI will act as the coordinator of the Bureau. 4/ Membership Fee Each member shall contribute a minimum of US $100 as an annual membership fee. 5/ Objectives : - Asia-Pacific cooperation in the field of theatre through e.g. festivals, exchange of information through the Internet and publications - Promoting Asian performing arts throughout the world community - Exchange of theatre practitioners, scholars, teachers and students - Undertaking such other activities which will further the cause of theatre in the Asia-Pacific region.
