The ITI World Theatre Medal honours outstanding theatre makers or individuals who have contributed to theatre and/or ITI in an exceptional way. It is the highest acknowledgement, given by the Executive Council of ITI during an Award Ceremony.
The Medal was designed by Claude Sandoz, a Swiss artist of international renown, whose work has been exhibited worldwide and is part of many museum and private collections. Claude Sandoz has done designs for stamps, coins, espresso (Amici) and painted the murals at Pilatus, the landmark mountain near Lucerne, Switzerland.
ITI World Theatre Medals awarded in the past
H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi, Member for the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Fujairah
The Executive Council awarded the medal to Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi during a ceremony in the Royal Palace in Fujairah, in January 2009. The award recognizes Sheikh Al-Sharqi’s continuous support for the performing arts, the International Theatre Institute and the Fujairah Centre of ITI – Fujairah International Monodrama Festival (held biannually). Sheikh Hammad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi is known for his long-standing commitment to culture and humanism.
