Item 1 Adoption of the Agenda
The discussion of the seminar the following on the 24th was moved to item "Any
other
Business".
The agenda was unanimously adopted.
Item 2 Programmes for 2002 - 2004
Ramendu Majumdar gave a brief account of what the Com Com had decided during
the congress in Athens.
Item 3 Website for Com Com
Thomas Engel gave a brief account what he and Agneta Hansson so far had developed
in order
to create a website for Com Com and graphic examples were distributed. Then
followed a longer and detailed discussion on how the work with the website should
proceed. It was decided that Thomas Engel should receive in a written form the
purpose of the Com Com and its aims and objectives. There was a suggestion that
not only The International Messages for World Theatre Day but also The International
Dance Day Messages should be included in 2 languages - English and French.
Item 4 Publications
The next edition of The World of Theatre was discussed. There had been suggestion
by Ian Herbert that since the next ITI World Congress is to take place in Mexico
already in March 2004 the next edition of our publication should only have articles
from the Americas. The suggestion was unanimously rejected. The next edition
2002 - 2003 will have articles from all of the national centres around the world.
But due to the shorter time for preparation of the publication it was decided
that
the writers of the articles concentrate only on one theatre season up till October
2003. There was a complaint by Hyesook Yang that the article in latest publication
of The World of Theatre had been so brutally edited that it had caused the anger
of the article's author. Ramandu Majumdar promised to speak with Ian Herbert
who is the editor. Very shortly Ramendu Majumdar will send call for the names
of the writers in the standard format. Each centre must nominate the person
who will contribute in The World of Theatre.
Item 5 Seminar
At the invitation by the Swedish ITI Centre/ Swedish Theatre Biennial 2003 the Board of Com Com was invited to Uppsala, Sweden from May 28th - June 1st to have its board meeting and a seminar. The Swedish Theatre Union arranges the Biennial every other year in collaboration with different regional theatres. It is both a national festival and a meeting place for everyone involved in the world of Swedish theatre.
There was a good discussion about the theme of our seminar and it was decided by the board that the suggestion by Agneta Hansson on International Theatre Communication was to be the theme of the seminar. The length of the seminar is about 1½ hours. The next seminar after Sweden will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh in December 2003.
Item 6 Meetings
There will be board meetings in connection with the seminars. Then followed
an evaluation of our Book Exhibition during the Congress in Athens. Many
opinions were expressed and it was a general concensus that there were too few
books on display and that there ought to have been someone in control with the
exhibition.
Item 7 Any other buiness
Due to lack of time it was decided that the board should meet again at a breakfast meeting on the 26th of January at 9.00 am in the hotels restaurant to further discuss the seminar in Sweden.
The 1st seance ended at 2.30 pm
The seance was chaired by the President Ramendu Majumdar
Item 7 continued.
The whole meeting was a broader and detailed discussion of the seminar to take
place
In Uppsala. After a long exchange of viewpoints it was decided that the theme
will be -
INTERNATIONAL THEATRE COMMUNICATION
- for whom? about what? in what form? what is possible?
New opportunities to exchange information and to communicate has evolved. Nowa-days it is easy to send information about theatre, dance, and festivals around the world. The question is, what are we going to do with it? The members of International Theatre Institutes Communication Committee invites theatre communicators and thea-tre workers to a seminar to discuss global information exchange.
There was also a discussion about the structure of the seminar and it was decided
that there ought to
one or two key speakers and that the role/potential of ITI should be underlined.
It was decided that Agneta Hansson when returning to Sweden should mail invitations
to the board
members of Com Com.
Item 8 Closing
The President of Com Com thanked the members present and closed the meeting.
